IC Saxophone Society's Constitution:
Article 1-Name
The name of this organization shall be the Ithaca College Saxophone Society.
Article 2-Purpose/Mission Statement
The purpose of this organization shall be to promote saxophone music within the Ithaca community, provide a forum for correspondence between saxophonists, create a musical link between current and past Ithaca College saxophonists, and promote the creation and performance of new music for the instrument.
Article 3-Affiliations
The Ithaca College Saxophone Society will be affiliated with Ithaca College, but would look to pursue possible affiliations with other organizations, such as the North American Saxophone Alliance.
Article 4-Membership
Section 1 - Membership in this organization is open to Ithaca College students.
Section 2 - Active members in this organization must be saxophonists performing in at least one college ensemble or currently taking lessons with an Ithaca College saxophone instructor.
Section 3 - Membership in this organization is open to all meeting the above criteria, irrespective of race, creed, color, gender, class, age, nation of origin, nationality, disability, marital status, religion, veteran status, or sexual orientation.
Article 5-Officers
The officers of this organization shall be:
President - Duties include but are not limited to the daily operations of the organization, preparing agendas for meetings, and development of organization objectives.
Treasurer - Shall be responsible for the financial records of the organization, developing a budget, and developing and inquiring about fundraising opportunities.
Secretary - Duties include recording meeting minutes, maintaining records of members, and establishing a semester calendar for events.
Graduate Saxophone Advisor/Liaison - Shall advise the organization, as well as act as a liaison between the current and past members of the organization and the professor of saxophone at Ithaca College.
Article 6-Elections
Section 1 - Elections of officers shall be held within three weeks of the first day of classes at Ithaca College. The Graduate Saxophone Advisor will announce and oversee elections.
Section 2 - All officers will be elected every year with the exception of the Graduate Saxophone Student Advisor who will be appointed by the professor of saxophone at Ithaca College.
Section 3 - Voting will be completed through a vote of hands with a majority required for a candidate's election.
Section 4 - All positions are to be held for one school year. Any current Board member can choose to run for the following year.
Section 5 - Those expressing interest will present what they attributes they can bring to the Executive Board in a brief statement in front of the studio.
Article 7-Meetings
Section 1 - Regular meetings shall be held a minimum of twice per semester and will be called by the President of the organization.
Section 2 - Quorum consists of 51% of voting members.
Article 8-Advisors
Section 1 - There shall be at least one Ithaca College faculty or staff member who shall serve as an advisor to the organization.
Section 2 - The advisor shall be the current professor of saxophone at Ithaca College.
Section 3 - The advisor duties and responsibilities will include any and all listed in the Student Organization Agreement. In addition, the advisor will be responsible for additional duties listed within this document, including appointing a Graduate Saxophone Student Advisor.
Article 9-Committees
Committees will be created at the discretion of the officers as needed.
Article 10-Dues and Fees
There will be no dues or fees required for this organization.
Article 11-Constitutional Amendments
Constitutional amendments will require a 75% vote in support of the amendment. A revised copy of the constitution must be sent to the Center for Student Leadership & Involvement when an amendment is passed.
